Nike x London Marathon

There’s nothing worse than running in London.

Challenge

The brutal reality of running in London isn't for the faint of heart; it requires a unique brand of rebellious devotion.

Runners in London live the relentless grind through the city 365 days a year.

Nike challenged Amplify to honour the fierce, self-deprecating loyalty of those who possess that little bit extra, to run in London, thriving in a volatile, love/hate relationship with a chaotic environment of winter downpours, traffic, and pedestrian dodging just for the un-clapped, everyday glory of it.

How could we look to land this disruptive, high-octane message across the city, scaling the narrative through pre-marathon build-ups and high-impact race-day executions?

Solution

To firmly anchor Nike within the core of London's authentic running culture, the strategy subverted traditional media playbooks, breaking conventional formats to meet runners exactly where their grit is tested.

The campaign completely blurred the lines between the physical city and high-octane brand storytelling, launching a multi-phased takeover that injected a fierce, matching adrenaline directly into the capital's veins. By weaponizing localised, community-level touchpoints before scaling into massive cultural spectacles, the brand significantly elevated the collective energy of the city across both marathon week and race day itself.

The execution kicked off by targeting the daily training grinds, executing unexpected pre-marathon park takeovers and activating a heavy-footfall hub at the Southbank Jetty. We then showed up at Hoxton Docs, a hub for runners that know running down London’s canals aren’t for the faint hearted, often dodging lime bikes and ‘phone zombies’.

This momentum culminated in a disruptive, unmissable moment of theater as the race gripped the capital. Nike hijacked the Thames skyline with a colossal 60-foot barge floating down the river; passing directly under Tower Bridge. We then deployed massive cranes that forcefully commanded attention and electrified the spectator atmosphere. By integrating guerrilla physical stunts with a cutting-edge spatial presence, the brand didn't just witness the marathon, it aggressively claimed a stake in London's landscape, proving an undeniable understanding of what it means to run through this city.
