30th Anniverary

PlayStation + Amplify create a monument to gaming memories.

Challenge

Amplify was tasked to commemorate 30 years of PlayStation in Australia by engaging with media, influencers, and the local gaming community and industry with a memorable celebration.

The idea had to drive earned fame through media coverage and social conversation across Australia, foster connection with the PlayStation commuity and play authentically in Australian gaming and entertainment culture.

Insight + Strategy

30 Years of Aussie PlayStation Memories.

For three decades, Australians have created lasting PlayStation memories across generations, from epic victories and thrilling adventures to hard-earned trophies and midnight launches.

We tapped into this emotional experience by celebrating three decades of Aussie gaming memories with PlayStation.

Our approach was to create a platform for personal and collective nostaliga, integrating an opportunity for personalisation to drive community story-sharing, reminiscing, celebration and a sense of collective ownership of the anniversary moment.

Solution

The Big Memory Card

As the only territory to have had its own launch day on November 15, 1995, the celebration had to feel uniquely Australian - bold, creative, and a little larger than life.

Inspired by Australia's playful 'Big Things' sculptures, we said a big "thank you" to the Aussies that chose to play PlayStation with us over the last 30 years with an epic, nostalgic monument to gaming memories

The Big Memory Card stood six metres tall (or approx. 100 times the size of an original 1995 PlayStation Memory Card).

But, this wasn't just a monument; it was a time capsule of memories and moments from the PlayStation community, staff, and partners - stories that were funny, nostalgic, and at times, deeply moving - all told on a big screen.

Memories were collected through a social callout and influencer outreach and even featured a contribution from Australian singer/ songwriter Guy Sebastian, live on Aussie breakfast TV show, Sunrise.

Complementing the installation was the Play Zone, a space that featured a display of custom, limited edition 30th Anniversary PlayStation hardware, a themed gacha mashine containing a limited number of special "Golden Ticket" prizes and a hotly contested AstroBot speedrun tournament.

Entertaining fans throughout was a cast of fan-favourite character cosplays.
