Challenge

Amplify were challenged to create an iconic Sydney experience that would launch the 2020 season of the Gran Turismo World Championships tour and entertain a live audience whilst translating to a broadcast audience of millions; cementing Australia’s position as an influential market for the motorsport discipline.

Insight

The gaming industry is seeing a cultural shift. instead of playing or watching esports at home, or in small groups fans are seeking more opportunities to come together and be part of a new, and rapidly growing community.

SIM racing is able to narrow the gap between the real and the virtual more than any other esport, but its legitimacy and credibility comes from the passion and professionalism of real motorsport.

Strategy

Create a unique live property in automotive culture that mirrors the anticipation, competition, showmanship and production of live motorsports to continue to excite introduce a new generation of fans to SIM racing.

Solution

The FIA Gran Turismo World Tour Sydney.

Amplify created a visual launch for the largest FIA approved esports platform in the world at Sydney's iconic Luna Park that blurred the lines between real-world and digital racing.

The venue was transformed to ensure that the live and global broadcast audiences were able to view each driver, the teams and the competition, which built tension and anticipation.

The Sydney World Tour event saw 49 drivers from 19 countries compete for two titles; the Manufacturers Series, where 12 automotive teams battled for poll position, with BMW taking the top spot, and the Nations Cup, won by Japan.

The event was broadcast live online on YouTube and Facebook, with commentary in 7 languages to an audience of millions.
